Hueneme Beach Getting Sand

The dredging at Hueneme Beach seems to be working. A sandy beach is now starting to form next to the south jetty of the Port of Hueneme, just a week ago it was open water.

The sand is coming from the Channel Islands Harbor. It’s the result of a $12 million dredging project that started up last week.

Hueneme residents are excited to see their beach come back to life.

“I was just down at the promenade and on the other side of the rocks there is a beach there now. There has not been a beach there for as long as i can remember. So it is exciting,” said Port Hueneme resident Maryanne Lantieri.

As the dredging work continues, so does the work on the Huneme pier.

This week, crews are repairing parts of the pier that were damaged or washed away during a storm earlier this year.
