Measure P Pits Environmentalists Against Oil Industry

On the November ballot Measure P is an ordinance prohibiting certain petroleum operations.

It asks voters whether Santa Barbara County should amend its Comprehensive Plan and County Code–to prohibit equipment supporting certain petroleum operations.

Those operations would include future hydraulic fracturing, acid well stimulation or aiding hydrocarbon flow into a well by injecting water, natural gas, steam, air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, chemicals and other substances- on all lands within the unincorporated County.

There would be some exemptions.

Supporters and opponents only agree that fracking is not currently going on in Santa Barbara County.
