Morning Burglary Investigation at Macy’s in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara Police are investigating a morning burglary at Macy’s Department Store in the La Cumbre Plaza.

Officers were called out about 5:10 a.m.

Several units surrounded the store, and investigators discovered broken glass on the Hope Ave. side of the three story structure.

Mall security and store officials were also called to the scene.

Crime scene investigators have been inside the store, in the parking lot, and on a nearby street searching for clues.

Video surveillance cameras in the Loss Prevention office were in use at the store.

Police say multiple suspects were involved and many items from the jewelry department were taken. They called the break in “sophisticated” and said the suspects appeared to be familiar with methods to get in and get out quickly. Investigators are seeing if those responsible for other similar burglaries in Southern California.

This store is one of two Macy’s in Santa Barbara.
