Skydiver Hurt in Hard Landing near Lompoc

A skydiver was hurt Monday morning when he had trouble reaching the pull cord for his parachute.

Emergency crews were called to an area east of the Lompoc Penitentiary Prison Farm and West of the Allen Hancock Campus.

The skydiver landed hard, after using a reserve/backup parachute. It took roughly 20 minutes for rescue crews to find him, but he was conscious and alert when they did and was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

This is the second skydiving accident in Lompoc this year.

In May, a skydiver hit a bridge while landing in an accident that may have been caused by strong winds.
