New Senior Housing is Planned in Santa Barbara on a Site Known for Pumpkins and Christmas Trees

A site known for the annual sale of pumpkins and Christmas trees, could be permanently converted into senior housing in Santa Barbara.

The nearly two acre site is on Hope Ave. near the car dealerships and the La Cumbre Mall.

Developers have presented a plan for 90 affordable units, which is more than would normally be allowed.

To make room, fewer parking spaces are being added to the site, which is near transit stops.

An issue that still needs work is the proximity to a nearby creek and the amount of distance, or the setback, the city will require.

So far, the early look at the plan has received favorable comments from Santa Barbara planners.
