Arrests and Injuries in Isla Vista Friday Night

Another night of partying ends in arrests and assults on peace officers.

These are some preliminary numbers from friday night:
. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department says about 30 people were taken into custody for various offenses.
. Those numbers do not include arrests from university police.
. 19 citations were issued.
. Officers were assaulted, no reports of how many.

Santa Barbara County firefighters had their hands full Friday night in Isla Vista.

Mike Eliason with Santa Barbara County Fire, said, “28 calls in about a 1.866 sq. mile area is a lot of calls.”

Many of those calls were alcohol related.

It’s a pattern first reponders see during the first weeks of school.

One of the more serious calls came in around midnight, Eliason said beachgoers called 9-1-1 to report a young man laying on the beach. It its unclear how the man got to the beach but Eliason said, his injuries are consistent with a cliff fall.

This apaprent fall comes one day after a 20-year-old Santa Barbara city college student fell off a balcony located about a block away. That man landed on the cliffs below and sustained serious injuries.
