SLO Driver Escapes Produce Truck Engulfed In Flames
A big rig explosion late Wednesday night on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo created a mess for drivers.
At around 11:33 p.m Wednesday, a Santa Maria man was driving a tractor trailer northbound Highway 101 at Higuera Street.
Authorities identified the driver as 25-year-old Adrian Barriga.
According to California Highway Patrol, the truck went into the center median and collided with the guardrail.
The truck then struck the concrete bridge over-crossing, causing major damage to the vehicle and bridge railing.
CHP said the truck came to a stop on the over pass and was hanging partially over Higuera Street.
The semi truck then burst into flames and the driver was able to get out unharmed.
A sig alert was issued at around midnight, and part of the highway around Higuera Street had to be closed.
Just before 9 a.m., CHP said the northbound lanes of Highway 101 were being diverted onto Higuera St.
The on ramp to southbound Highway 101 from Higuera Street is also closed.
CHP is anticipating reopening the roadways before noon.
