Avocado Festival Factoids Includes Some Green for Students

The California Avocado Festival this past weekend, has resulted in educational funds for students in Carpinteria.

The three day event drew thousands to the downtown area, and organizers are sharing the profits.

Student scholarships will receive $6000., and $3000. has been given to the Future Farmers of America program at Carpinteria High.

Another $200. was donated to the FFA in an auction of the largest avocado, which weighed nearly four pounds. It was purchased by Gary Dobbins.

The always popular avocado ice cream made this year by “Here’s the Scoop” sold out just as the festival ended Sunday with 5600 cones and cups served up.

The event had 70 bands on four stages.

There was also zero waste with every plate, cup and food scrap recycled.
