Man Arrested For Alleged Rape of University Student in Isla Vista

Santa Barbara County Sheriff released the following information Thursday:

Asuspect is in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of raping a 19-year-old University of California Santa Barbara student on October 1, 2014 at a fraternity house in Isla Vista.

23-year-old Victor Farias, of Salinas, was arrested later that day following an investigation by Sheriff’s deputies with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol (IVFP).

The investigation began at approximately 6:45 a.m. on October 1 when the victim came into IVFP and reported that she had been raped by the suspect at a fraternity house located in the 800 block of Fortuna Lane in Isla Vista.

Farias was reportedly visiting a friend who was a fraternity brother at the house. Sheriff’s deputies through the course of their investigation were able to identify Farias as the suspect. At approximately 10:40 a.m. they contacted and arrested Farias at the fraternity house.

Deputies were able to seize photos on Farias’ cell phone related to the alleged rape. Farias was also found to be on active Santa Barbara County Probation for burglary. Farias is being held without bail at the Santa Barbara County Jail.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone who has information on this sexual assault or any others involving Farias, to call the IVFP at 805-683-2724 or to leave an anonymous tip, call 805-681-4171.
