Authorities in Nevada say they are investigating the death of 27-year-old Margay Edwards as a homicide.

The Nye County, Nevada Sheriff’s Department says last Thursday ATV riders found the decomposing body of Edwards in the desert near the town of Pahrump.

A cause of death has not yet been released and so far authorities say there are no suspects or persons of interest identified in the investigation.

Central Coast News has learned Edwards was staying in a hotel in Las Vegas but its unclear if she was there alone or with friends.

Edwards family members declined to talk about the case but its believed the last time they heard from Margay was about two weeks ago.

Margay Edwards grew up in Los Osos and graduated from Morro Bay High School in 2005 where her former coach told Central Coast News she was a standout basketball player.

Cary Narelli says she saw Margay Edwards about a month ago.

“We had a little conversation. she was happy, gave me a big smile and a big hug”, Narelli says, “we checked in to see how each other was doing and then she was gone, and that was the last time I saw her.”

Margay Edwards attended San Diego State University where former classmates tweeted condolences to her family.

She also worked at the Firestone Grill restaurant in downtown San Luis Obispo where the manager declined to comment about the case.

Investigators are looking for Margay Edwards cell phone and her car which is described as a blue, 2014 Hyundai Accent.
