New Gun Regulation Laws Linked To Isla Vista Tragedy

Two gun bills linked to the Isla Vista massacre in May will take effect in 2016.

Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1014 in law Tuesday. The measure will allow family members to ask a judge to temporarily remove guns from relatives who may pose a threat

Brown also signed Assembly Bill 505 into law. The measure will inform police about gun ownership before a welfare check.

The owner of a Santa Barbara gun shop said its a knee-jerk reaction to a remote situation that will lead to regulation abuse.

But students walking in Isla Vista near the UCSB campus said they think it will help prevent school shooting and other massacres.
