Motorcyclist Credits Helmet For Saving His Life

A Santa Barbara City College student said he is lucky to be alive after a car accident Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on Cliff Drive near Oceano Avenue.

Police said the driver of the black Jetta was turning left into a driveway when he allegedly cut off a motorcyclist on his way home from school.

“He pulled out in front of me and I hit him. I did a full front flip over his car. I remember being upside down in the air and my helmet saved my life thank God. It’s just insane. I remember being upside down staring at the pavement,” said Kyle Whittaker.

Whittaker walked away with just a few scratches on his elbow and back.

The driver of the car was not injured. Both the motorcycle and the car had to be towed away.
