Santa Barbara Child Hurt in Accident

A young girl went to the hospital with head injuries when she was hit by a pickup truck as she used a crosswalk on a Santa Barbara street Thursday morning.

The girl was headed to school at Franklin Elementary and was holding the hand of her mother as they crossed the street when she was hit. The mother was not hurt.

The accident happened around 8:45 a.m. at the corner of Carpinteria and Voluntario streets.

The girl was treated by paramedics and the principal at Franklin also provided assistance.

Santa Barbara Police report the 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital for treatment of a head injury.

Police officers are looking into the cause of the crash. The pickup was driven by a 17-year-old boy.
