‘Breakfast Of Champions’ Draws Big Crowd in Santa Paula

Hundreds of supporters for the Santa Clara Valley Boys and Girls Club woke up early for the Breakfast of Champions Tuesday morning.

The fundraiser helps support the organization in Santa Paula, Filmore and Piru. More than 1,400 kids at seven school sites and two club houses are given a place to learn and be safe.

“The Breakfast of Champions is very important. It’s one of our major fundraisers for the year and it gives us the foundation to continue with all our programming for our kids. We have a lot of kids who can’t afford to come and we scholarship them. We never turn a child away,” said Jan Marholin, the Boys and Girls Club CEO.

The club charges only $35 a year and if a youth cannot pay, they can still come.

KCOY anchor Paula Lopez was the event’s keynote speaker. She talked about how the Boys and Girls Club helped shape her, starting in the fourth grade.
