Gaucho Soccer Preparing For #2 UCLA
UCLA has dominated the series with UCSB in soccer but the Gauchos have leveled the playing field in the past ten years. The Gauchos will look for another signature win over the second-ranked Bruins this Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Harder Stadium.
Of course the Gauchos biggest win in program history came in St. Louis when Santa Barbara knocked off UCLA in the National Championship game in 2006. They also beat UCLA in 2010 when UCSB set an on-campus NCAA regular season attendance record when 15,896 fans saw a 2-0 win. UCLA leads the all-time series 32-4-4.
The Gauchos have 19 players that are either freshman or sophomores and their inexperience showed last week in a 4-1 drubbing at Stanford. But the Gauchos figure they will improve with each game as they bounced back to defeat Colgate last Friday 4-1.
UCSB is 2-2-1 on the year while UCLA is 3-1-2 on the season. The Bruins played to a scoreless tie last Sunday at home to Cal Poly.
