Golden Knights Headline Thunder Over The Valley

After a one year absence, Thunder Over The Valley will return to Santa Maria this weekend. The popular two-day event, which was cancelled last year due to budget issues, will be held at the Santa Maria Airport.

The headliner for the show will be the United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team. “We are the Army’s Aerial Demonstration unit, we travel the country connecting America’s Army with America’s people,” said Sgt. James Hackett, Golden Knights team member.

The group, which was formed in 1959, performs at hundreds of events each year, including air shows, sporting events and other gatherings. “It just kind of lets the American public know, hey, this is why we have our military. This is just a taste of what the military is and what they’re doing every day overseas,” said Shelby Bixler, Golden Knights team member.

Hackett, who joined the Golden Knights late last year, encourages the public to support the air show. “Looks like we’re going to have some acrobatic planes, a couple of T-6’s, so you’re going to see a great air show, some old historical aircraft to include some modern day aircraft,” said Hackett.

Thunder Over The Valley will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 23rd and 24 th , from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a admission fee of $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 7 to 12, and no charge for children under 6 years old, as well as military personnel.

The Golden Knights are schedule to jump between 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
