Santa Barbara Unified School District Hires On Dozens Of New Teachers

A new injection of energy and fresh ideas will be infused into the Santa Barbara Unified School District this year.

Local schools hired on ninety new teachers for the fall.

They gathered for training today at district headquarters.

Some are straight out of college, others are new to the area like Annamaria Gallegos, who will teach art at Dos Pueblos High School.

“I’m from Oakland and I love art. I’m looking forward to meeting you all,” said Gallegos.

“The amount of new teachers that come in bring a new energy, a new enthusiasm and really liven up the campus,” said San Marcos High School principal Ed Behrens.

San Marcos will have seventeen new teachers when the fall session starts next Wednesday.

Superintendent David Cash said early retirement packages offered last year opened up spots for the new hires. He estimates the changes will save the district $300,000 dollars over the next 5-years.
