Cal Poly Cracking Down On Drugs and Crime

On August 10, San Luis Obispo police arrested five Cal Poly football players accused of robbing the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at gun point.

Since then, all of the players have been suspended from the team.

“You know it hasn’t been much of a distract as many people might think. I think coach Walsh did a really good job of keeping the focus on him and nothing towards the players,” said Mustangs linebacker Nick Dzubnar.

No charges have been filed yet and all five players have posted bail. The pending arraignment date is scheduled for Aug. 25.

The University could not tell us if the players were currently enrolled in summer classes, but campus police are working together with San Luis Obispo police to provide extra security near the fraternity house. Cal Poly also is offering on campus housing for any fraternity members who feel unsafe.

Cal Poly president Jeffrey Armstrong says, “Drugs and criminal activity have absolutely no place at Cal Poly,” therefore the football program will add their own mandatory drug testing on top of the required NCAA random drug test throughout the season.

“I think we have came closer as a team and that is really what we wanted to do every since we found out and I think we have done that and I think its going to be good,” said Dzubnar.
