Family, Friends Mourn Loss of Guadalupe Murder Victim

Javier Alcantar Limon was 37 years old when he was killed. Investigators from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department have not released the cause of death, other than to rule it a homicide.

His family and friends went on social media Wednesday to mourn his loss, posting photos of Limon and sending messages of support.

Limon’s body was discovered by a farm worker near Guadalupe, north and west of Santa Maria.

Eduardo Gutierrez was headed to work with co-workers when they “noticed some sandals thrown to the side” and saw Limon’s body lying off in a ditch.

“The body was face down, we couldn’t really see too much … it did seem like it was an older person,” Gutierrez said.

The group didn’t have a cell phone, so they flagged down a passing car and asked the driver to call police.

Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies and Guadalupe Police officers blocked off a road leading to Guadalupe Beach for several hours.

Stephen Carroll was one of many who were turned away. He says that he was “surprised to see [today’s] commotion.”

Carroll said he had plans of going surfing on the beach and “figured today would be agood day to check it out.”

The Sheriff’s department has not named any suspects in Limon’s death. “At this time we are trying to determine how he ended up deceased on the side of the road, ” said Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kelly Hoover.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crime to call the Sheriff’s Department. Anonymous tips can be left at 805-681-4171.
