St. Anthony’s Celebration Fills the Streets of Pismo Beach

A Portuguese tradition filled the streets of Pismo Beach on Sunday.

Members of the St. Anthony Celebration committee marched into and out of Sunday morning mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pismo Beach.

The morning started with a parade.

Filling the streets with sounds and sights of the St. Anthony’s Celebration.

Destinee Leonardo, a St. Anthony Celebration queen representing Hanford, California said, “It’s a Portuguese celebration, Portuguese people call it Festa.

Leonardo is one of the many queens chosen by a St. Anthony’s festival committee from each church group. For one year the queens and their court will represent their group in festivals like the one in Pismo Beach, throughout the state. Many of the queens are teenagers.
