Isla Vista Elementary Recieves Grant For New School Year

A Santa Barbara County elementary school is getting a little extra financial help this year thanks to a local bowling alley.

Zodo’s Bowling & Beyond in Goleta nominated Isla Vista Elementary to receive $1000 from the Bowling for Schools grant program.

It’s sponsored by the Kids Bowl Free summer bowling program which provides students who sign up with free games daily at select alleys.

Isla Vista Elementary is now one of only 50 elementary and middle schools from across the country to be awarded these funds.

“We hold fundraisers to get whatever we can to put activities back for the kids,” said Isla Vista Elementary principal Mary Kahn. “So this will allow us to do support activities that we wouldn’t otherwise get to that allow the the kids to be active.”

Activities will include both during and after school activities.

Last year, Zodo’s provided over 18,000 opportunities to children in the Santa Barbara area as a part of the free summer bowling program.

“The grant money is going to help so many local children,” said Steve Davis, Zodo’s General Manager. “We could not be more excited to partner with the Kids Bowl Free program which not only funds this grant but also provides children across the nation with free bowling all summer long.”
