Santa Barbara Library Plaza Set for Remodel

Designs are in the works to give the Santa Barbara Library a new entrance plaza.

Currently the area is underused, and often a hangout for the homeless.

The plan is to open it up, and have more public use both for library and civic events.

Nearby there are many cultural sites and theaters. The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is directly next door. When the project is finished, the city hopes there is a blend and connection with all the locations.

There may even be outside movies on the large wall nearby.

The project will cost about $4 million. Funds were earmarked several years ago, but lost due to issues linked to the recession.
