Man Found Dead In Mobile Home Fire Is Identified

Lompoc Fire have confirmed to KEYT/KCOY/KKFX that Douglas Arthur Garbers is the man who was found inside a mobile home following an early morning fire.

Douglas was found dead after being trapped by flames that swept through his home.

The Lompoc Fire Department says the blaze started before 2 a.m. Thursday on the 800 block of North O Street. Firefighters were able to contain the flames before they could spread to neighboring mobile homes.

Lynn Morlan describes her friend and neighbor as being recluse and kind. She says she “knew him for many years, but he never came out” of his home.

Lompoc Fire says the fire got out of hand because there was no smoke detector in the home. They also note that smoking and an excessive accumulation of things in his home made it very difficult for crews to get in and put out the fire.

Kurt Latipow, fire chief for Lompoc Fire, said “without the support of county fire and Vandenburg Airforce Base none of us in this valley could handle fires of this type without that level of assistance.”
