Camp Counselors Keep Kids Cool

The heat puts extra pressure on camp counselors trying to keep their campers from overheating.

Aqua Camp, Fun In The Sun and Girls Inc campers spent a couple of hours in the pool at Los Banos Del Mar in Santa Barbara Thursday.

Aquatic supervisor Rich Hanna said children still sweat in the water and can get dehydrated fast.

The pool has drinking fountains, but swim coaches recommend drinking a bottle of water before and after a swim or workout.

Counselors are trained to take the children out of the heat if they notice them losing their energy.

Once a child is hydrated they can usually rejoin the group.
