Cowboys Bring Cash to Oxnard

The “C” in Cowboys may as well stand for cash. That is what fans of the Dallas Cowboys are bringing to Oxnard as they come to see the Cowboys practice at their summer training camp.

The Cowboys training camp is a financial touchdown for the City of Oxnard and beyond.

“We love having them here, it brings a lot of visitors to the area. So if they are spending money they are ringing the cash registers here, they got to go eat somewhere and we have some amazing, wonderful restaurants here in the city, ” said Abel Magana with the Visitors Bureau of the City of Oxnard.

While in Oxnard, America’s football team is staying at the Residence Inn right next to the field the players practice on.

“We are more than sold out, we do all the catering for the Cowboys, we do a lot of their other setup needs. So it puts us at full occupancy and fills all of our meeting space,” said Residence Inn Manager David Dreher.

Besides the players coming to Oxnard, there are also tens of thousands of fans coming to see them.

Dreher says all the fans have solidly booked almost every single hotel room in Ventura County for this weekend.

Local schools, sports teams and organizations also are cashing in on the Cowboys by setting up concession stands at the Cowboys practices.

“We are selling food to raise money to get new mats for Camarillo’s high school wrestlers. So we have all the high school wrestlers volunteering at different shifts,” said Adele Montijo with the Camarillo High wrestling team.

The school sports teams expect to make between $5,000 and $10,000 by running the concession stands during the camps.
