New Family Friendly Tasting Room Opens in Solvang
A new winery in Solvang recently opened its doors, and they are making their tasting room open to everyone.
Lucky Dogg Winery Vice President Mead Whippo said, “We want the vibe in here to be a really fun party all the time and everybody’s invited.”
With a chalk board for kids and a doggy bed, Lucky Dogg is the newest family-friendly tasting room in Solvang.
After a couple of friends decided they wanted to start their own label, their relaxed and small scale winery came to be.
“We just dove right into it. My partner got busy with the fruit and all that and I got busy with spreadsheets, pen and paper, leases and all that stuff,” explained Mead.
The local winery grows its grapes in Los Alamos, they’re crushed in Buellton, and the final product is sold in Solvang.
Both Lucky Dogg partners say they hope to bring something different to your glass.
Lucky Dogg Winery President Brent Melville said, “Well Lucky Dogg is just all about spreading the wealth of karma and we feel that you know if we take good fruit and we can deliver it into the barrels that we will produce a very good wine.”
Solvang became the perfect destination for their new adventure, and both partners say their business has been in high demand in the small Scandinavian town full of bakeries.
“The Danish part is all still there too, but it’s definitely a wine destination,” Whippo explained.
And since the doors have opened, their bottles keeping flying off the shelves
Melville said, “July 4 was our grand opening and it’s just been a very nice steady business coming in the doors.”
Lucky Dogg Winery is hoping to grow in popularity and they are looking at selling sparkling wine and possibly grape beer in the future.
