Two Fires Break Out Near Atascadero Lake

Two fires broke out in Atascadero a short distance from each other around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The brush fires were in a creek bed at Highway 41 and Lago Avenue near Atascadero Lake.

The two fires totaled about an acre in size and burned in light grass. Atascadero Fire called in additional engines from the Templeton Fire Department and Cal Fire San Luis Obispo.

Crews extinguished the blaze at about 3:30 p.m. with no damage to any structures.

Officials said the fire is suspicious with the second fire starting soon after the first about 300 yards away.

Crews are still on the scene mopping up. No injuries were reported.
