New Pharaoh’s Egyptian Wildlife Exhibit Brings Exotic Animals to County Fair

The Santa Barbara County Fair has animals of all types, but a new exhibit this year is bringing some unfamiliar animals to the Central Coast, The Pharaoh’s Egyptian Wildlife Exhibit.

From a vervet monkey, a giant African encrusted porcupine, to dozens of snakes, this hands-on exhibit at the county fair features unique animals from the North African region along with the artistic flare of Egypt.

Exhibit wildlife educator Karla Majewski said, “I think people are expecting to see animals in a typical zoo environment and when we mix the creative artistic design with the animals and make it more of an attraction that people are very interested in. And then that’s our chance to reach out and educate. “

This is the first time anyone has seen the pharaoh’s exhibit, and the exhibit directors are hoping by having the animals so close it will allow for a better experience.

“It gives us a really easy, close personal approach, especially when you’re at a fair and you’re not expecting it, and you’re just here for family fun. It’s awesome!”

People of all ages have been stopping by the arena at the Rabobank Discovery Pavilion and everyone has found a favorite.

Exhibit visitor Ibeth Ramos said, “So far, I like the tarantulas and my daughter likes the turtles.”

Eight-year-old visitor Owen Hamell said he liked the scorpions and snakes.

So for those looking for something hairless or slithering, there is something for everyone at the new Pharaoh’s Egyptian Wildlife Exhibit.
