Kjar Cakes Celebrates with 91 Cent Cupcake Special

Wayne Kjar has honored his late father Henning, with a .91 cupcake special at Kjar Cakes today, which would have been his dad’s 91st birthday.

The deal was offered at the original Cliff Dr. location, and the new site on Coast Village Road. By noon, over 1500 cupcakes had been sold.

Customers were buying a single cupcake or a variety box to share.

Kjar says he was able to thank his longtime customers for their support, and meet many new customers during the celebration.

“It’s primarily to honor my father’s memory. I learned everything from him and the customers are pleased to have us here and that’s what counts,” said Kjar.

The cake business is doing well for Kjar this summer, especially for weddings as he held up a thick binder full of orders.

His father was a local legend in the cake business, when he owned Henning’s on Figueroa St. until about nine years ago.
