Atascadero Protestor Pepper Sprayed
The Atascadero Police Department received a report of two people being assaulted with a caustic chemical on the Curbaril Road overpass on Highway 101 just after 5 p.m. on Monday.
Officers say the chemical was pepper spray. Police say the people were standing on the sidewalk holding a peaceful protest at the time they were sprayed. They were treated at the scene.
Officers contacted the woman the protestors said had sprayed them. Investigators say she admitted to them that it wasn’t planned, but she had been overcome by the message on the protestor’s signs and had sprayed them.
The protestors demanded the officer make a woman be arrested citizen’s arrest. The woman was arrested, cited and released.
