Multiple Structures in Construction Zone Destroyed in Early Morning Fire

Santa Barbara County Fire released the following information:

At 3:30 a.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a structure fire, located at Storke Road and Whittier in Goleta.

County Fire was assisted by Santa Barbara City Fire Department, University Police and the Sheriff’s Department.

A total of five structures burned including three constructions trailers, one large three story residential building under construction, and the old clubhouse from the Ocean Meadows Golf Course. All five structures were fully involved upon firefighter’s arrival to the scene.

Firefighters reported 60 to 70 foot flames. The buildings are located on UCSB property. The fire was knocked down at 4:30 a.m. and Storke Road was closed in the general area. All roads are open at this time for through traffic.

No injuries reported. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the morning mopping up and determining the cause.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
