Organic Christmas Dinner Planned for Needy
On Christmas Day, some of Santa Barbara’s needy will receive a holiday feast as good as any high-end restaurant.
The Organic Soup Kitchen has organized its fifth annual dinner to serve those who would otherwise go without on the holiday. The dinner is planned from noon until 3:00 p.m. Christmas Day at the Veteran’s Memorial Center at 112 W. Cabrillo Blvd.
“Our mission and belief is that all people, regardless of economic status, have the right to healthy, organic food, and seeks to nourish and educate at-risk populations while sustaining their health, future, and environment. I personally, have met many angels within our community who are willing to go the extra mile — volunteers committed to see that those within our community have a happy holiday regardless of their circumstances,” said Soup Kitchen organizer DiAnna Jordan.
The Organic Soup Kitchen is a nonprofit organization with a social objective to provide organic, nutritious, wholesome food to marginalized sectors of Santa Barbara’s community.
“It is our belief that no persons, regardless of financial status, shall compromise the quality of food they feed themselves or their families,” said Anthony Carroccio, the Soup Kitchen’s Director.
“We leverage relationships with other charities to reach as many hungry people as possible,” Carroccio said. “This allows us to serve nutritious food and encourage those in need to use the services offered by other local nonprofits (medical, family shelters recovery housing etc.)”
“We promote resource efficiency by approaching community providers such as local, organic farmers and retailers of natural, healthy and organic food,” he said.
