Saturday was a big day for tournaments.

UCSB men’s basketball defeated Western Illinois 61-55 to finish up 2-1 at the Basketball Travelers Classic in Logan, Utah. Alan Williams had 22 points and 16 rebounds as the Gauchos improve to 7-4 on the year.

Cal Poly lost at Pittsburgh 73-56.

The UCSB women’s basketball team fell to 4-7 on the year with a home loss to Nevada 77-66.

Sierra Canyon won the Tournament of Champions in girls basketball as they beat Redondo 53-40 in the finals. Ventura took third place with a win over Orange Lutheran. Host Santa Barbara defeated Rio Mesa 54-37 to claim the consolation championship.

The San Marcos boys basketball team held off Bishop Diego 54-43 to win its second consecutive Jim Bashore Carpinteria Holiday Cage Classic. The Royals started the game on a 13-0 run and was able to turn away a Cardinals rally in the third quarter.

The San Marcos girls soccer team was the host with the most as they won their Winter Classic. The Royals defeated Dos Pueblos in the championship game 4-1. Freshman Raynee Odell started the scoring with her first goal in high school. San Marcos went 4-0 in the tournament as they also beat Carpinteria, Rio Mesa and Capistrano Valley.
