Suspected “Grinch” on the Loose After Stealing Holiday Packages
Morro Bay Police are warning you to be on the look out for a Grinch suspected of stealing Christmas presents. Within the past few days, several packages were snatched from at least four different homes, after they were delivered and left on people’s front porches.
“These are what we got instead of a tablet and a toy,” said Mike Weddinge, as he held up two empty boxes, of what was supposed to packed with his little boy’s presents
“We were expecting a couple of gifts for our 3-year-old son coming from his grandmother,” said Weddinge.
Last Friday, when Mike got off work, he was expecting to see the packages delivered on his front step. Instead, someone else got there first. Three days later, he got a call from a neighbor saying she found the empty boxes in her trash can, but no gifts.
“What kind of savage takes a Christmas gift right before Christmas? They were for my little boy and that felt pretty violated for me,” said Weddinge.
Morro Bay Police the homes targeted were located on the 600 block of Piney Way, 400 block of Piney Way, 500 block of Monterey Avenue and the 2800 block of Fir Avenue. Police say this time of year is typical for thieves to bank on other people’s deliveries.
“If you’re going to send a delivery to your house, track when it’s going to arrive, so you’re home when you receive it. Be specific to the shipping company to send it to a post office box, or to a store front, or leave a note,” said Commander Bryan Millard, Morro Bay Police Department.
As for Mike Weddinge, he says from now on he will be sure to be home when he’s expecting a package.
“Getting the boxes back at least was really nice closure. There’s not are they still in the mail, or they late? It’s like okay, this happened,” said Weddinge.
Mike said he will be able to get back those stolen gifts because he had insurance.
