Capps Gives Capitol Flag to SM Airport Wall of Honor

The military Wall of Honor at the Santa Maria Airport has received special recognition from the nation’s capital.

A small crowd gathered to watch Central Coast Congresswoman Lois Capps present an American flag that flew on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to Hugh Rafferty who led the campaign to create the military Wall of Honor inside the terminal building at the Santa Maria Airport.

The Wall is a tribute to military men and women, past, present and future, and was dedicated last Memorial Day weekend.

“When the people that are deployed come back, I think its nice they can stand here in front of their flag, whether it be Marine Corps, Air Force, Army or Navy, take pictures with their families and have a remembrance of the day they came home and when they are leaving”, Rafferty says, “its something to bring with them and say Santa Maria cares.”

The flag presented by Rep. Capps will be encased and mounted on the Wall as part of the tribute to those who serve the country in the U.S. military.
