Academic Academies Host Open House

Art, design, health, engineering, and entrepreneurship are just some of the academies offered at high schools in the Santa Barbara Unified School District.

Students and teachers took part in a showcase to pitch the academies to younger students Wednesday night at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara.

One student said he chose the Accelerated Academic Program for Leadership and Enrichment Academy at San Marcos high with the hope it will help him get into a prestigious university.

Students may transfer within the district to attend a school with the program that interests them. They must then apply for the academy.

The district’s transfer application deadline is in February.
