Woman Attacked Near School in Santa Maria

Santa Maria Police say a woman is recovering from knife wounds after a man attacked her late Wednesday morning in Santa Maria.

It happened just before 11:30 on Alvin at Broadway, in a parking lot.

Police say the woman was walking behind El Camino Junior High School when a man came up from behind, held a knife to her and told her not to move. The woman put up a fight and was able to get away but suffered cuts to her hand during the struggle.

The woman was not able to give a good description of the suspect but said he was Hispanic.

Police are investigating.
