Santa Barbara stabbing investigation

Investigators from the Santa Barbara Police Department are investigating a stabbing that occurred on the 00 block of West Figueroa Street.

At 11:32 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim in the incident, a 20-year old male Isla Vista resident who was suffering from a non-life- threatening stab wound in his torso. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Investigation indicates that at approximately 10:40 that evening, the victim was walking along the 00 block of West Figueroa Street when he was attacked by multiple assailants. He exchanged punches and grappled with the attackers until they fled. After they left, the victim realized that he had been stabbed. He walked to a relative’s nearby residence and was then taken to the hospital.

Investigators have not yet determined if the attack was gang-related. This investigation is ongoing and additional details are being withheld.
