Mountain Lion Sightings On The Rise

Several mountain lions have been spotted in recent days. Wildlife experts believe the drought conditions are forcing the big cats out of the back country to look for water.

A female mountain lion cub was killed by a car on Highway 154 and the Cold Springs Bridge early Monday morning. CHP officers and the Animal Rescue Team responded to the scene.

Experts said the cub weighed about 25 pounds and was only 4-5 months old. They also believe the cub was traveling with her mother and other cubs.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office said a mountain lion was spotted near the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History on Saturday night. It was headed up Mission Canyon near Rocky Nook Park. Authorities don’t know if it’s the same mountain lion that was spotted in the La Cumbre area a week earlier.
