Fundraiser for Mallory Rae Dies Brings Friends and Family Together

5 days after Mallory Dies died of injuries she suffered after being hit by a drunk driver, friends and family are spending the night remembering her loving spirit by hosting a fundraiser in her memory.

The 27-year-old died on Wednesday after she was hit by Raymond Morua, whose blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the accident.

After spending 5 days in critical condition, Mallory Dies was taken off life-support on December 11th. On a website set up in her memory, her friends and family posted a message: “A good friend Mallory has passed on, we are raising funds to help ease the family’s financial burden.”

So far, close to $40,000 dollars has been raised online, but the hope is that a silent auction and donation boxes from tonight’s fundraiser will also make a difference for the family.

“We’re hoping that with the money raised we can start a campaign to never drink and drive again, and we are hoping to take it statewide. And then maybe even national,” said Brennan Titus, a friend of Mallory.

The 27-year-old UCSB graduate was a bartender at Tonic Nightclub. She was hit on December 6th while crossing Anacapa Street and never regained consciousness. But from the outpouring of support during Mallory’s fight, it’s clear she had developed many close relationships during her time in Santa Barbara.

“It’s really hard to put it into words. She was so loved by so many people. I just found out today and a friend of mine is going to be getting her liver, so in death comes life, and through this we hope to spread awareness,” Titus said.
