Nordhoff Loses in Regional State Playoff Game

Nordhoff made a few uncharacteristic mistakes and Corona del Mar made them pay as the Rangers lost 24-8 in a CIF-State Division III Regional Playoff game in Costa Mesa.

The Sea Kings grabbed a 10-0 first quarter lead on a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown. Nordhoff had a late first-half touchdown wiped out on a holding penalty and then missed a field goal to end the half down 10-0.

Corona del Mar increased its lead to 17-0 in the 3rd quarter on a 37-yard touchdown pass. The Rangers had a chance to score late in the quarter but a fumble ended the drive inside the 10-yard line.

The Sea Kings made it 24-0 on a quarterback keeper with under four minutes to play. Nordhoff avoided the shutout on a Tanner Workman to Austin Wolcott short touchdown pass.

Nordhoff ends a fantastic season at 13-2 and they are now the 2-time CIF Northwest Division champions.

Corona del Mar has now won 25 straight games and advances to next Saturday’s CIF-State Division III Bowl Championship.
