Santa Barbara Business Upset With ‘Chalking’ Outside of Shop

A Santa Barbara business owner is upset about chalk drawings outside of her State Street jewelry store.

Jackie Karp says “Silver And…” was forced to close Wednesday afternoon when a large group of young people started drawing chalk art on the sidewalk near the store front. Karp calls it vandalism.

Employees called Santa Barbara police and authorities responded. SBPD says the chalk artists committed no crime.

“What bothers me the most is that there is a bunch of people who can do this at one time in the middle of the day and close your business down and do all this and nothing happens,” Karp said the next morning.

The chalk art did have profanities written outside the business. Power-washers were called to clean the sidewalk.
