Cachuma Lake Adds Tons of Trout

Four thousand pounds of rainbow trout were “planted” into Cachuma Lake Thursday, the second major infusion of fish into the waters in recent months.

The fish are placed in the lake to ensure those who want to fish at the Lake have plenty of opportunity to make catches ranging for two to eight pounds. Most of the trout placed in the water in the most recent stocking weigh around two pounds.

The stocking pleases local fisherman Zack Wagner.

“This gives more fish to breed with and just keeps that population up to where it should be,” he said. Wagner believes the stocking will benefit businesses along the lakeshore.

The fish were trucked in from the Calaveras trout farm in Merced. Fish are added to Cachuma Lake six times per year. The next planned stocking is the week of January 5.
