Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Driver Has Criminal Record

Records provided to NewsChannel 3 by the District Attorney’s office show that Raymond Morua has a prior criminal record, including two prior DUI arrests, a previous hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, and grand theft. Morua, who worked as a District Representative for Lois Capps since 2011, was terminated from his position on Sunday.

According to police, Morua was driving down the 500 block of Anacapa Street early Friday morning when he hit 27 year old Mallory Dies, who was crossing the street. He then allegedly fled the scene before crashing into a tree a few blocks away. His blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. Morua was arrested for felony DUI and hit-and-run.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Arnis Tolks said that Morua could face 8 years in prison if convicted of all charges.

According to an online blog that has been set up by Mallory Dies friends, she is still in critical condition at Cottage Hospital.

Morua is being held on $250,000 bail. He is set to be arraigned tomorrow morning.
