Man Shot by Santa Barbara Police Expected to Survive

Late Friday evening, several Santa Barbara Police officers responded to multiple 911 calls of a man brandishing a deadly weapon inside of a residence in the 1200 block of San Andres Street.

Shortly after arriving, SBPD reports one officer was assaulted by a 26-year old man. The officer fired his weapon at the man, striking him several times.

The man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive. The officer who fired the shots was not injured.

It is standard procedure for police to conduct a full internal investigation whenever an officer fires a weapon. On Monday the department released a short statement indicating the incident was not gang-related.
