Westmont College Soccer Advances to National Title Game

Westmont College is back in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship game after they advanced past Northwood of Florida in a penalty kick shootout.

The Warriors trailed 2-0 in the 56th minute of the game but the Warriors stormed back. Booke Lillywhite headed in a corner kick in the 58th minute to get Westmont on the board and the equalizer came in the 70th minute on an own goal by Northwood. The game went to overtime tied at 2.

After two scoreless overtimes, the semifinal went to penalty kicks. Tied at 6 in PK’s, Westmont’s Carly Holly scored for the second time to put her team up 7-6. Warriors goalkeeper Lindsey Smith then saved Erin Wells’ shot to put Westmont into their first title game since 2003.

Westmont College will play Concordia of Oregon at 3 p.m. PST. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in Portland in late August.
