Showing the Party Spirit After Nine Decades

A party for residents who are 90 years old and older brought out over 200 guests this afternoon. It was hosted by the Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department.

Costs were covered through donations from local companies.

The event at the Carrillo Recreation Center, was emceed by Larry Crandell, a long time host of local events, and someone who just turned 90 himself.

“I think it formalizes the sense of achievement that you have reached a point in your life that most people are denied,” said Crandell.

Those attending were treated to a lasagna lunch followed by a piece of a big birthday cake.

Some wore hats to get into the spirit.

Live music was provided by “Jazz Plus” and those who wanted to kick up their heels, hit the dance floor.
