Santa Maria Jail To Expand Hours of Operation

The Santa Maria Jail will expand its hours of operation starting in January.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved $272,000 for the sheriff’s department budget.

In 2011 the Santa Maria Branch Jail’s service hours were reduced due to the recession and budget constraints.

The extra money will pay for a daytime bus that will transport arrestees to the main jail in Santa Barbara. It will be staffed with both custody and sheriff’s deputies. The Daytime Transportation Team begins Jan. 1, 2014.

The Santa Maria Jail will reopen to 24-hours on July 1, 2014.
