Goleta Seeks Bids To Improve Dangerous Crossing

The city of Goleta officially opened up the bidding process to make the crosswalk safer on the corner of Santa Marguerita and Cathedral Oaks.

It has been two weeks since an 18-year-old driver struck and killed a 59-year-old woman pushing a relative in a baby stroller.

Neighbors said they urged the city to makes improvements before the accident. A spokesperson for the city said the bidding fit the timeline they had before the accident. The bids will be unsealed Dec. 12. A contractor could be chosen by Dec. 17.

The city wants the project to include flashing beacons, a median extension and the elimination of a right hand turn lane onto Cathedral Oaks. For more information, go to http://www.cityofgoleta.org or visit city hall at 130 Cremona Drive, Suite B.
