Electrical Workers Decorate Tree With Christmas Lights

Members of the local electrical workers union decorated the large star pine tree on the corner of Carrillo and Chapala streets Sunday morning.

Two men free climbed the 110-foot tree as others gathered below helping raise the Christmas lights.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers has been decorating the tree with lights for around 90 years. It’s a tradition that is being passed on through the generations.

“It’s something I feel is something I can do to give back to the community, and it’s something I enjoy doing and love doing with the family,” said Matt Russell.

Russell has climbed the tree for more than 20 years.

The electrical workers union bought $4,000 of new LED decorations and it will look different this year. This is the first time colored lights will decorate the tree.

There are 20 100-foot long strings with 2,000 lights on each.

The lights will be turned on in a couple weeks.
